Because, in order to do that, you have to pull your right arm back to begin the swing, this exposes you for a quick jab in the face.





Also after you punch, you are leaning forward and off balance. so if you miss landing it, you are also vulnerable.

Reply:cos they are crap, they are really awkward to do (for right handed people) cos its difficult to put your bodyweight behind the motion to get power from the back foot - hard to explain. Just stand in right handed stance and try it yourself...

You can deliver the punch with power doing this as long as the technique is right. the power and snap on your punches really originates from your feet and legs.

Reply:pro boxers dont throw single rights often because the punch is always set up by a jab or fake jab first. the jab and foot movement close the gap so then you can throw a right hook throwing a single right hook is easily read and leaves you wide open for counter punches. .

Why throw a hook when a straight right has as much power or more and gets there faster? The right hook is okay when you are inside and you need that angle to land the punch. Maybe his hands are in a defensive position and its the only way to hit an opening. Right hooks should only be thrown on the inside and even then not that often. Chavez would throw a good right hook on the inside.
