Is Size 4 in treble hooks the same size as 4/0?

not at all 4 is way smaller than 4/0 the high number the smaller the hook and the smaller numbers are bigger in size and when you get to /0 sizes a 1/0 is smaller than a 2/0 which is smaller then a 3/0 which is smaller than a 4/0 and so on up to around 10/0. Hook sizes are confusing but the more time you spend with them the more you'll learn. I to took time to get used to all the different sizes. Best of luck to you and your fishing travels.

No they aren't hook sizes for from size 32 (fly-tying midge hook) to size 1 then 1/0 all the way up to 25/0 (great white shark hook by mustad)
Reply:A size 4 hook has a gap (between the shank and the point) of about 3/8 of an inch. A size 4 treble looks like it's made up of three size 4 hooks fused together, with a total width of about 3/4 of an inch.

A size 4/0 hook has a gap of nearly an inch. It's a single hook used for big baits and big fish, generally in the ocean. So yes, the two are roughly the same size, but they're completely different.

Edit -- what I meant above is that a size 4 treble is roughly the same size as a 4/0 single hook, both a bit under an inch across.
Reply:No, a lot smaller. I wrote a whole section on hooks. If you are interested in reading, please go to:
