Can I use knitting row counters on crochet hooks?

If not what are the best ways to keep tracking of rows?

Can I use knitting row counters on crochet hooks?
I've never had any luck keeping a row counter on a crochet hook. All I did was put a long length of yarn through the row counter and wear it as a necklace, changing the rows as I went. Consequently, it's helped me keep track of where I put it too.

Reply:They don't really stick to the crochet hook, do they? I keep it on my lap and just turn it. Another thing you can do is use paper and pencil to keep track. The advantage of this is that I can grab a pencil and a crochet hook at the same time, but it takes two hands to twist those little counters!
Reply:I don't see why not, I do. I just tie them oon the "tail" where I started, or pin them to the side of my work. Works great for me.
