What do people mean when they talk about "hooks" in songs?

Can you give me some examples?

The "hook" is the chorus.
Reply:The part that gets stuck in your head. It can be anything, the guitar part, vocal. Something CATCHY.
Reply:The hook is what gets a hold of you and gets stuck in your head! Usually the melody or chorus.
Reply:Well, it's usually the introduction to the song that tries to grab you in. It's suppose to be extremely catchy, and I generally don't like catchiness unless I'm listening to the Beach Boys or the Beatles. Otherwise, I generally don't listen to songs with hooks. Most hooks today are just terrible, and I try to avoid them, since they'd just get stuck in my head.

One hook I like is "Sweet Child O' Mine" by Guns N' Roses. It's the guitar intro that tries to grab you in. Good thing that song has a solid structure.
