When hanging curtains do you put the hooks in and hang them on the track before pulling the string?

or do you pull the string before you put them up?

When hanging curtains do you put the hooks in and hang them on the track before pulling the string?
Hello,

When you hang curtains you need to pull the string and gather the curtain first.

Measure the width of half the window allowing for the part at the side of the window at the wall. Pull the string and gather evenly and space it out.

When this is done, measure one curtain against the window and see if it is correct. If so then put the curtain hooks in according to how you would space them out.

If it is heavy material you may need more curtain hooks so they hang evenly. Put the hooks in the slots evenly and not through the cord.

Hope this helps.
Reply:No pull the string to the correct length - always put the long end of the string on the outside edge (never in the middle) so you can hook it over the top (knot it carefully cos you may need to undo to wash) and it will not show! then put the hooks on evenly spaced then hang - make sure hooks and hookers add up to the same number or buy more hookers or use less hooks - stand on steps or you will get arm ache - or get him indoors to do!! they always know best!
Reply:I'd pull the strings before you hang them - but don't tie them too tight (in case you need to adjust them). That way, you can get the width and the gathers right, then when you're happy, tie them off and try to hide the ends (a pain in the neck in itself!).
Reply:Gather them first. Make each curtain about 2" wider than half the total width.
Reply:if you mean the cords for the gathers then i always pull them in first . then put the hooks in and hang them up.
