They go inward so you can't see them outside the shower.

Reply:Depends on the type...the big end goes over the main bar and then the decorated part hangs out, or if none, then they both hang inside...the curtain.

Reply:Inward mine were is easy because one set has the flowers and the other ducks.
Reply:i would suggest you put them such that the ends of the hooks are facing in towards the shower/bathtub. this way, if you slip in the bath/shower the shower curtain will be able to come off instead of yank off the rail. and hell, it looks better too..
