Questions about Rane Serato Scratch Live (DJ Equipment That Hooks Up To Computer)?

Basically, I know what it is obviously you put the two CDs in your turntable (unless u have vinyl) connect it to the box then laptop then just drag mp3 on the computer n boom. Couple questions though, 1. Can you use programs like Virtual DJ or does it just have its own program your only allowed to use and if you can use multiple programs which one is the best? 2. For most DJ programs, the BPM is read and when you drag a song, it automatically matches the BPM, or theres a one-click feature for that, do the DJ Programs that are compatible with the Serato Scratch live have that feature? and 3. Stupid question not expecting to get a solid answer but where's the cheapest I could find it? So Far I've found it for around 500 on eBay. Thank you.

Questions about Rane Serato Scratch Live (DJ Equipment That Hooks Up To Computer)?
Rane Serato only reads from its proprietary software and control discs. All of the various DJ softwares -- Torq, Virtual DJ, Cue, etc -- utilize different frequencies that cannot be read by another manufacturer's control vinyls/CDs or respective hardwares. You can, however, burn control CDs to other discs.

Scratch LIVE version 1.6.3 introduced a tap tempo feature to accompany its standard auto-BPM. You can also "snap" loops to beats -- when creating a loop Serato will automatically attach the start and end to the start and end of the nearest beat for seamless looping. Nice!

The cheapest you'll find a new Serato with manufacturer warranty is $539. You may be able to sweet talk a dealer into a lower price, but most companies aren't interested -- Serato sells on its own and dealers don't feel they need to scramble to seal the deal. You may find it on CraigsList for pretty cheap -- around $300 -- but they'll either be used or stolen. If you go that route you should invest in new control vinyls and CDs, and be really carefully with the software -- it may be corrupted, have a bunch of preferences you don't want, etc. Either be really wary, or save up to shell out.
